Wellington-based composer second in international contest
[FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE]
Wellington based composer/percussionist/pianist Takumi Motokawa’s recent composition for solo timpani “Orochi” has been selected as the second place winner in 2010 Percussive Arts Society (PAS) Composition Contest, Category I – Solo Timpani. Three prizes are awarded in each of two categories. He is the only winner from outside the United States in this year’s overall competition.
PAS has been running this international competition since 1974 and a number of the past winning works have become key literature in the international percussion community.
Takumi’s composition and the prize will be presented at annual PAS industry convention PASIC, which will be held at Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, 10 – 13 November this year. He is currently raising the money to attend the convention.
