Church Service For Canterbury Earthquake

ANGLICAN DIOCESE OF AUCKLAND

MEDIA RELEASE – 14 September 2010

Church Service For Canterbury Earthquake

A service will be held in Holy Trinity Cathedral Parnell on September 15th for the city of Auckland and its church communities to express support and concern for the people of Canterbury.

The ecumenical Service is supported by a number of inner city churches and is open to anyone who wishes to express hope and prayer for the people of Canterbury.

The Dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral, the Very Rev’d Jo Kelly-Moore says, ‘Lives continue to be disrupted in Canterbury. The Service is a chance for us to show support and tell of hope as those communities look to rebuild.’

‘While many in Auckland have friends and family in Christchurch who they are supporting directly, as a wider Auckland community people are all deeply concerned and want to demonstrate that concern and offer support. This Service offers another opportunity to do that,’ says Dean Kelly-Moore.

During the service a candle will be lit for those experiencing loss and trauma. The service will include a message from the Bishop of Christchurch, the Rt Rev’d Victoria Matthews, and there will be an opportunity for people to make an offering to an earthquake appeal fund established by the Diocese of Auckland.

The service begins at 6pm.
