Contemporary Artists Support Orakei School Art Exhibition and Sale
4th October 2010: Students at Orakei School recently enjoyed a master class with leading contemporary New Zealand artist Sofia Minson, who shared with them how she is inspired by the land, myths and people of Aotearoa. Sofia is one of more than thirty established and emerging New Zealand artists donating works to Orakei School Art Exhibition and Sale, to be held Friday 29th October to Sunday 31st October, in the school hall.
This innovative fundraising event, organised by the Orakei School PTA, will feature over 100 finely detailed portraits and landscapes – in both contemporary and classic style – and large-scale surreal visuals and oil paintings, which will be of keen interest to the investment buyer.
With prices to suit all budgets, from $50 to $12,000, the school hopes to raise funds to purchase a range of state-of-the art teaching and library resources as well as sporting equipment.
Orakei School Principal Michael
Mayer says, “We have been overwhelmed by the level of
support received from the wider national art community for
our inaugural Art Exhibition and Sale".
“I'd like to thank the artists and
our corporate sponsor, Simpson Grierson, for their
assistance in staging the event, which promises to be a
fantastic weekend.”
Leading artists exhibiting at
the event include: Michel Tuffery M.N.Z.M., Nicky Foreman,
Rae West, Belinda Wilson Emma Wright and cast glass artist,
Jenny Smith.
A gala preview evening for the
Orakei Art Exhibition and Sale will be held at the school
hall on Friday, 29th October, where works can be purchased
in advance. Tickets cost $30 and are available from the Art
Committee Coordinator, Myana McLeod (021)0579726.
Entry to the Orakei Art Exhibition and Sale on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st of October is free of charge.
