Wellington Firebirds squad to play Otago Volts
The Wellington Firebirds squad to play the Otago Volts in the third round of the 2010/11 Plunket Shield at the Basin Reserve, starting Tuesday 23 November at 10.30am, is:
Neal Parlane (captain) Joe Austin Smellie Matthew Bell Harry Boam Dewayne Bowden Josh Brodie Tipene Friday Jayde Herrick Andrew Lamb Cameron Merchant Fraser Quarterman Michael Pollard Stewart Rhodes Luke Woodcock
The Wellington Firebirds selectors have named fourteen players, with the playing XI to be finalised on the morning of the match. Fourteen players have been named to ensure that both the Firebirds’ batting and bowling stocks are well covered.
In changes to the squad from the team that met the Northern Knights at the Basin Reserve last week, Grant Elliott (BLACKCAPS in India), Lee Edwards (stomach injury) and Mark Houghton drop out.
Batsmen Michael Pollard and Stewart Rhodes and bowlers Fraser Quarterman, Dewayne Bowden and Jayde Herrick (Victoria, Australia) come in.
Neal Parlane takes over the captaincy from Elliott.
Victorian right arm fast medium bowler and right handed lower middle order batsman Jayde Herrick joins the squad for this match to provide firepower to a Firebirds line-up severely disrupted through injuries and unavailability through BLACKCAPS selection.
Herrick comes highly recommended via Firebirds coaches Anthony Stuart and Shane Deitz’s Australian connections.
Twenty five-year old Herrick is a former Victorian U23 cricketer and currently plays grade cricket for Casey-South Melbourne, whom he has captained, and for the Victorian State Second XI and is part of the Victorian high performance programme.
This match is the final four-day fixture before the Plunket Shield competition breaks for the HRV Cup Twenty20 throughout December and the One-Day competition from January to mid-February.
