Help MOTAT Build A Super City!

Help MOTAT Build A Super City!

MOTAT is helping educate kids on what makes a city ‘super’ in a fun and interactive way, through the ‘Super City Holiday Experience’.
Children can look forward to visiting MOTAT and helping build a cardboard box Super City, just like the real life ones, from 3-31 January 2011.

Are the roads wide enough for cars? Is the water supply sufficient? Are there enough parks around town? These are all questions that need to be asked when building a city. MOTAT will help children understand the importance of these features, and why we need to appreciate every one of them.

Activities include construction of a Town Hall in the MOTAT Courtyard using Sytrofoam so that the public know the essentials of building a city, learning the importance to the community of Super City flag designing, the fantastic MOTAT Super City competition to be in to win prizes that will fuel the creative mind, and finally, voting for the MOTAT Super City’s very own Mayor.

Bridgette Robinson, Events Coordinator at MOTAT, said the Super City Holiday Experience is a great way to engage and inform kids on the changes going on not only in Auckland, but generally around the world in all the greatest cities.

“We want to educate kids while keeping them interested by ensuring they have fun while they learn. It’s important for children to enjoy learning, so all our activities are hands-on, to get their brains switched on and engaged in the fun activities on offer,” said Ms Robinson.

Kids will love contributing their talents to the construction of the Town Hall. Family and friends can grab a polystyrene brick, decorate it in a way that represents them and add it as a building block to the glorious MOTAT Super City Town Hall.

The ‘Noises of Transport’ activity will have kids using their senses to solve problems. They will have to listen carefully to the noises produced by an interactive screen to recognise the sound and choose the correct form of transportation.

Other great activities in the Super City Holiday Experience include the Make ‘n’ Take Tram’ where kids can build and decorate their very own cardboard tram to take home and show their families, crossword and colouring activities, as well as all the other usual fun activities MOTAT has on offer.

Dates
3-31 January 2011, activities run from 10am – 4.30pm (museum open until 5pm)

MOTAT - Great North Road and Meola Road, Western Springs, Auckland.
