Beach, Beats and BBQ’S at Ellerslie Racecourse

Ellerslie Racecourse is tightening up is liquor controls to ensure everyone has a great time on Boxing Day.

The new look infield will be fully licensed and supervised, featuring a number of themed bars.

This means that patrons will no longer be allowed to BYO within the racecourse; however there will be plenty of places to grab a drink from any one of a number of bars on course.

The Entertainment zone in the infield also features a beach with truck loads of sand for a beach cricket tournament, top New Zealand bands unplugged, a 60-foot BBQ, food stalls and more.

This follows the trend at sporting events around the country to tighten liquor controls to ensure the actions of a few don’t prevent the enjoyment of everyone else.

Infield car parking will be in a separate area to the infield entertainment zone.

You can still bring in your own picnic, BBQ, tent and umbrella, as long as you can carry it from your car.

But to make it even easier, visitors are also being invited to put their steak and sausages on New Zealand’s longest BBQ which is being provided free of charge for everyone to use on the day.

Scissor lifts are also welcomed by prior arrangement.
