New Zealand Look to Bounce Back on Sunday

New Zealand Look to Bounce Back on Sunday

New Zealand will be looking to rebound tomorrow after losing all four games in the Youth Trans Tasman Series. The Under 19 Boys, who defeated Australia yesterday by a one touchdown, lost today by the same margin in the dying seconds of the match. They still have the chance to win the series tomorrow in what will be an eagerly-anticipated match.

The Under 19 Girls, Under 21 Women’s and Under 21 Men’s will be playing for New Zealand pride after Australia clinched the Series today. The two female teams suffered similar defeats to Friday’s matches losing 8-3 and 9-2 respectively, while the Under 21 couldn’t equal their one point loss yesterday going down 12-6.

The Under 19 Boys produced some excellent Touch and started the much stronger team going 2-0 up in the opening minutes with a high energy style of play. Australia pegged New Zealand back in the later stages of the game and a touchdown-for-touchdown pattern continued throughout. Bay of Plenty’s Shaquille Stone, Southland’s Scott Eade and Counties Manukau’s Ihaka Watene all contributed to their team’s cause but Australia’s final touchdown was the difference in the end.

With the other grades decided, all eyes will be on the Under 19 Boys as they strive for a slice of Trans Tasman glory tomorrow.
