“Everything And the Kitchen Sink” 30 Years of NZ Short Film
“Everything And the Kitchen Sink” 30 Years of NZ Short Film 1980-2010
Restauranteur Luke Dallow (Sale St/ Chapel Bar & Bistro) has joined forces with film guru Ant Timpson (V48HOURS/ NZFF Programmer) to present SALE ST SHORTS; a series of cinema-gastronomical excitement at the award winning Sale St Bar in Auckland.
Luke Dallow is an avid movie watcher and fan of NZ short films and is passionate about supporting local actors and bringing new concepts to customers at his Auckland bar Sale St.
"The garden bar at Sale St is the perfect place to enjoy a wine or beer & some food along with a movie under the stars"
Presented in Association with SKY’s Rialto Channel, the series will celebrate thirty years (1980-2010) of the greatest NZ short films ever made. Patrons will watch NZ short films on a big outdoor screen as they feast on award winning food and imbibe on a selection of NZ’s fine wines and Sale St’s fine micro-brewed beers.
Ant Timpson explains why people need to see these shorts outdoors under the southern cross,
“If you’ve only seen some of these shorts on the small screen or on your computer monitor, then you haven’t really seen them. Each Tuesday night will be a fun show that follows this simple formula. Good film + Good food + Good booze + Good location = Good Times."
The show gets underway from Feb 15th, with shorts screening every Tuesday for four weeks. Over 40 shorts will screen in the series beginning with the most successful NZ short of all time Alison Maclean’s creepy and surreal KITCHEN SINK (1989) and ending with one of the funniest, Radar’s hilariously dead pan & depraved THE JOURNEY (2004). Award winning directors include Harry Sinclair, Taika Cohen, Ellory Elkayem, Jane Shearer, Jason Stutter, Steve Ayson, Jane Campion, Adam Stevens and many many more.
Rialto Channel’s Luke Murray reveals why they’re committed to supporting NZ short films,
“We are passionate about the development of new talent, building on-going relationships with NZ short film and independent filmmakers, and supporting these filmmakers by providing a vehicle for their work to be viewed by a wide audience."
You can also be part of the action too. If you’ve made a great short film in the past 12mths and want to submit it to be screened on the final night of Tuesday (March 8th), please send a DVD before Feb 25th. (not your master, copies won’t be returned) to :
