Elements Festival Presents – Wai
Elements Festival Presents – Wai
Strong, soulful and evocative, Wai are a Maori electronica band which expresses the life force of the living Maori language, with natural beats, rhythms, and sounds. Human breath, insect and bird sounds, are incorporated with enticing vocal patterns and harmonies – which is then cloaked in electronica.
Their stimulating presentation of Maori language, music and culture will delight all who hear them at the 2011 Festival of the Elements this Waitangi Day, February 6, at Te Rauparaha Park, Porirua.

The power and life of water is the primary element integral to celebrations at this year’s Festival. Wai’s sound incorporates patere, ngeri, haka, waiata ringa, pao and waiata tangi style within a dynamic artistic expression. Their organic natural rhythms from the Poi, back and forth, create tight thudding beats – an altogether exciting and invigorating experience.
The day begins with an opening ceremony at 12 noon and continues through to 7:30 pm. It is the best FREE family day out on Waitangi Day on offer anywhere.
