Champion Centre Art Auction

The Champion centre will be holding an art auction on Tuesday 22 February. The cocktail evening and auction, hosted by the Design and Arts College of New Zealand (D&A), includes modern painting, photography and sculpture by Canterbury artists including Tony Cribb, Hamish Allan and more.

The evening is being run as a fundraising event for the centre which has been helping children with various special needs including Down syndrome, premature birth, cerebral palsy, and traumatic brain injury since 1989. “The Champion Centre does fantastic work for so many Canterbury families with children who have developmental delays. I became involved because my 4 year old daughter has Down syndrome. Unfortunately they only get so much government funding, so for the last 4 years I have been helping with fundraising” says event organiser Casey King.

Each year about 6,000 children are born with special needs in New Zealand. Organisations such as The Champion Centre play an inaugural role assisting with children’s learning and development. The Champion Centre works with up to 200 local children and families per year, helping them reach their full potential. Around two-thirds of the Champion Centre’s operating costs come from annual government and one third (approximately $500,000 per year) must be fundraised.
