Country 99 Tv News Release – 21/2/11
Country 99 TV will tonight screen part two of a major investigation by the Sector Report programme into rural lending by the banks, which are forcing some farmers off the land as values drop below the level of their mortgages.
In last week’s episode, viewers heard from one farmer, Janette Walker, whose North Wairarapa hill country property is being sold by tender after the bank pulled support.
Tonight we hear from another South Waikato dairy farmer who is facing receivership, despite his assets outstripping his liabilities by millions.
Only one of the major banks has put up a spokesman to go on camera, with the rest just releasing statements. Westpac’s head of agribusiness, David Jones, appears in the studio with Sector Report presenter, veteran journalist John Stewart.
Part Two of Sector Report’s investigation into farmers in trouble with their banks will air on Country 99 TV on Sky at 8.30 tonight, Monday February the 21st , and will be available to view, along with Part One, on the channel’s website from Tuesday.
