Low Budget Film Attracts Top NZ Cast
Pre-production has commenced on Existence, the second feature film funded through the NZFC’s low budget Escalator initiative, launched last year.
Co-written by the film’s director Juliet Bergh and DOP Jessica Charlton, Existence brings together some of the best acting talent in New Zealand including Loren Taylor (Eagle vs Shark), Peter McCauley (After the Waterfall and Perfect Creature), Gareth Reeves (Tracker) and Matthew Sunderland (Out of the Blue, The Devils Rock)¬ with Peter McKenzie, Thomasin McKenzie and Aaron Jackson.
“The calibre of our cast is extraordinary and a testimony to the strength of the script and the vision for the film, as well as the commitment of an incredible crew” says Existence producers Mhairead Connor and Melissa Dodds.
“We’re delighted that these world class actors are supporting our project and are excited about the challenges and opportunities this distinctive film presents. We are also grateful for the support of their agents and our passionate and talented casting director Tina Cleary of The Casting Company, who has shown remarkable belief in our team and the story we are about to tell”.
Existence is a salvage punk Western set in a dystopian future. It tells the story of Freya who lives with her family on an isolated and securely guarded peninsula. Trapped behind the Boundary Fence, Freya dreams of escape and pursues a mysterious outsider who can free her. Like all those inside the boundary, Freya is unaware of the truth of her Existence but willing to risk everything to find out what is on the other side of the Fence.
Filming will commence in
Wellington in mid-April.
