Mini and V48hours Celebrate 30 Years Of
Goodbye
Pork Pie
The year was 1981 and New Zealand was in rapture over a little yellow MINI on a road trip. That road trip put New Zealand and that MINI onto our screens and into our hearts – forever. It marked the coming of age of New Zealand filmmaking and showcased the great talents of a new young filmmaker, Geoff Murphy.
30 years on MINI and V48HOURS want to celebrate that classic MINI and New Zealand film by paying homage to Goodbye Pork Pie. Just announced today, the winner of the new “Best Road Movie” category at this year’s V48HOURS Grand Final will score a MINI Countryman for the longest summer road trip of all time, from October 2011 – March 2012. Nice.
What better way to do a road trip, and even perhaps retrace that famous journey from Goodbye Pork Pie, than from behind the wheel of the latest MINI Countryman.
As the launch pad for New Zealand’s future filmmakers, it is fitting for V48HOURS to look back and celebrate one of our most loved films and find out who the next generation of guerilla filmmakers will be.
“At V48HOURS it has always been a closely guarded secret what film genres teams will be shooting, so announcing this prize and genre in advance is a break from tradition for us,” says V48HOURS founder Ant Timpson.
V48HOURS registrations have been extended and will now close on Monday 9th May at 9am.
Shoot weekend will take place Friday 20th May – Sunday 22nd May.
