cityfitness sponsors Khandallah Squash team including former world no.3 Squash player; Stuart Davenport
5/5/2011
It's been over 25 years since former world number 3 squash player Stuart Davenport last turned out for Khandallah squash club but his name has appeared on the team list destined for the National teams squash championship in late June.
The cityfitness sponsored Khandallah squash team will be lead by long time club stalwart Shane Johnston with Davenport "probably" slotting in at number 2. That way he can "avoid coming up against too many keen, fit 19 year olds ".
The cityfitness sponsorship stems from the fact that Davenport works at the fast growing fitness and health provider developing corporate programs for businesses nationwide. "We help businesses to establish fitness initiatives for their staff that result in improved productivity".
The khandallah team will benefit from a specialised training program devised by cityfitness trainers but that may not be enough to carry them to the winners podium. "We probably won't be competitive at the very top level but we are going to really give it a go anyway" says Davenport adding " Our average age is probably about 10 years higher than other teams and in squash every year counts.."
Also on the team list is former Wellington representative Jonathon Leach and club captain Simon Berkett "
