International judge secured for inaugural wine competition

Press release 16 May 2011

Further international judge secured for inaugural wine competition

Ralph Kyte-Powell has been confirmed as the second international guest judge at the inaugural Spiegelau International Wine Competition being held in Marlborough next month. Kyte-Powell, a well-known wine judge, critic, author and writer based in Melbourne, is keen to contribute his experience.

“Having immersed myself in wines from all over the world for so many years, I’m delighted to be part of the line up for this first Spiegelau competition.’ Kyte-Powell joins Phil Reedman MW based in Adelaide and ten top New Zealand-based wine judges as well as Chief Judge, Mike DeGaris from Sydney.

Competition Director, Belinda Jackson says, “We are delighted to welcome Ralph on board. We have worked together previously and I am looking forward to doing so again. Ralph brings a great palate and expertise but also a keen sense of humour and camaraderie.”

Launched to provide the ideal platform to bench-mark New Zealand wines with styles from around the world, Jackson further comments, “With our great line up of judges and highly respected principal sponsor, we believe that the event will be of significant interest both locally and overseas.”

Entries close this Friday, 20 May.
