Art Workshops in Khandallah

A new programme of art workshops and classes has just been launched in Wellington. The workshops got underway at the weekend in Morag Stokes’ Studio, Khandallah, Wellington, and brought together a diverse group of artists, from hobbyists to professionals, for a day of experimentation with a wide range of acrylic art products. Morag is a full time painter and Certified Instructor with the New York based GOLDEN Artist Colours paint company. Her workshops focus on the creative possibilities of modern acrylics – not just paint, but gels, mediums, pastes and digital grounds. Knowing your materials is what it’s all about.

The workshops are aimed at people who have some kind of creative process already going on, who can take inspiration into their own work. This includes hobby painters and crafts people, and those who would like to pick up on long lost art interests, as well as emerging and established artists. Participants are provided with all the materials they need to create four small art works over the course of the day, using a variety of products and techniques. The emphasis throughout is on learning what the materials can do, rather than producing a masterpiece! Experimentation is encouraged.

Renowned Wellington cook and writer, Mariapia de Razza, prepared a sumptuous three course meal for the first ten workshop participants to celebrate the launch. She and Morag plan to join forces for more art and food ventures in the future.
