Russell Coutts and the America's Cup

Russell Coutts and the America's Cup

Sir Russell Coutts is donating his time to help a charitable cause – the restoration of a heritage building in Whangaparaoa

In a rare New Zealand speaking engagement, the America’s Cup and Olympic yachting legend, Sir Russell Coutts, will be speaking at Orewa College on Wednesday 25th March to help raise funds for the restoration of St Stephen’s heritage building on the Whangaparaoa peninsula. All proceeds from the event will go to the restoration fund.

Because Sir Russell is rarely in New Zealand, this is a fairly unique and one-off event.

The America’s Cup is the world’s oldest and possibly most controversial sporting trophy. The advent of multi-hulls will change everything about the event.

Future events will be sailed to strict time-limits. Umpires will adjudicate on land from TV screens. The sailing will be much faster, more exciting and designed specifically for the viewing audience.

Learn how all this will be achieved from the man largely responsible for heralding the changes.

Russell will give a talk, video presentation and hold an open forum. This will be your opportunity to ask questions directly – even about such difficult issues as his involvement with Alinghi and Oracle.

A most informative evening – all for $30 per ticket with no charge for schoolchildren.

To purchase tickets:

Email to ron.mcinnes@xtra.co.nz and he will provide direct credit bank details. Alternatively door sales will be available.
