Contemporary art supports women’s leadership

Contemporary art supports women’s leadership

In support of women’s leadership development, the YWCA Auckland and The Wallace Arts Trust will be hosting an event at the recently restored Pah Homestead.

“We are pleased to be helping the YWCA in some small way as their history and pedigree across all forms of work in the community is a fine one,” says James Wallace.

After Deutz and warm winter canapes, guests will be treated to an indepth tour of the exhibitions as well as access to usually non-public areas such as the turret and the art storage vault.

“The Wallace Arts Trust Collection is essentially a ‘diary’ of contemporary New Zealand art, and women have a strong tradition within it,” say Mr Wallace, “it is our hope that this event will enable guests to garner a richer understanding of female artists in New Zealand, specifically in the disciplines of photography, painting, digital media and sculpture.”

The CEO of the YWCA Auckland, Hilary Sumpter, welcomes everyone to this event “A couple of years ago we opened our event doors to men as gender equity and women’s leadership development is an issue for everyone, not just women. We all have men in our lives in one form or other and excluding them is not letting them support the work we do.”

“At YWCA events we get a chance to hear from the beneficiaries of our leadership programmes,” continues Hilary, “and we hope to engage our attendees further with the work we do which changes lives. Along with being treated to quality events, such as visiting the glorious Pah Homestead and the Wallace Arts Trust Collection, one of the finest private contemporary art collections in New Zealand…”.

Event Details: Cocktails with Art, 6pm - 8pm, Wed 22nd June 2011 TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre, Pah Homestead, 72A Hillsborough Road, Hillsborough.

Tickets $60 available on-line www.akywca.org.nz or phone 09 375 9242
