PureBlack Racing shows top form against Pro-Continental teams as Scott Lyttle wins KOM jersey for Tour de Beauce

Auckland, New Zealand, 20 June, 2011 – After being in yellow leader jersey for the first two stages Scott Lyttle has finished up with the King of the Mountain Jersey, as the Tour’s top climber, after the sixth and final stage of the Tour de Beauce in Quebec. Lyttle’s PureBlack Racing team mates showed impressive form with Mike Northey grabbing another top five finish for the team.

The final 125 km stage of the Tour de Beauce today was a tough technical course that provided no relief to the riders as they took on their sixth straight day of racing on a 12.5km circuit course. At the end of the day Svein Tuft, from local Canadian team Spidertech, pulled away to a 12 second gap off the front to take the stage and Mike Northey finished in fourth place in a sprint to the line.

“It’s been a huge tour for the team, the results really do speak for themselves,” said Carl Williams, Sports Director of PureBlack Racing. “This was our first International UCI 2.2 race and the boys have stepped up in a tough and uncompromising tour that saw them competing against four of the best Pro-Continental teams from the next level of Pro-cycling. The results that we have achieved here in Quebec show we are on track towards our ultimate vision and that our riders are able to compete and perform well at this level of cycling.”
