Halliday Back In Porsche Supercup For Silverstone

New Zealand racing driver Matt Halliday has signed up for another appearance in the 2011 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Great Britain’s Silverstone circuit this coming weekend.

Halliday will again contest the race for the German based MRS Team and will pilot the same 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 he raced at the Monaco round of the series in May.

Principal sponsors will again be the Giltrap Group with additional sponsorship provided by William Rast Racing, the fashion clothing label who sponsored Dan Wheldon to victory in this year’s Indianapolis 500.

Halliday has notched up two top ten placings in previous visits to the 5.9 kilometre Silverstone track with his best result being 5th in 2009:

"I am really excited to be back in the MRS Porsche Supercup car for Silverstone which is another one of my favourite European circuits. The new layout was first used last year which makes it even more exciting so we will be looking for another strong result.

“It is also great to have both Giltrap Group and William Rast on the car this weekend so the whole team will be pushing hard to get the job done for them” said Halliday from his Los Angeles base today.

Porsche Supercup drivers will undergo a 45 minute free practice session on Friday afternoon with the 20 minute qualifying session on Saturday morning. The 14 lap race starts at 8:45 pm NZ time on Sunday and will again be a support event to the British Formula 1 Grand Prix.
