Digital magazine delivers words, pictures and video
Digital magazine delivers words, pictures and video
Viewfinder, the free digital magazine for camera
owners and independent movie makers everywhere now features
video within its pages.
The magazine was started by Aucklander Steve Hart as a print-only publication in 2009. But last year it went digital and the July issue ¬ out today ¬ features video within the pages of the PDF.
Editor and publisher Steve Hart says it was just a matter of time before the magazine began featuring content such as this.
³We experimented with video within the pages of the PDF last year, but the results weren¹t consistent among our testers, so we abandoned the idea,² says Steve.
³But a number of things have come together to make it possible today. The latest version of Adobe Indesign CS5.5 has made it easier. More people have broadband and readers are more open to reading a magazine on a display screen ¬ be it a computer or tablet device.²
Steve says the July edition is just the start and has plans to make the magazine increasingly interactive over coming editions. However, the downside of making a PDF that features video is that its file size does get larger.
³We have overcome this by offering two versions for readers,² says Steve.²The plain old standard PDF and the interactive version. We don¹t want people on dial up internet to miss out on the magazine as it is a great read.²
Steve hopes advertisers will be keen to feature their TV commercials in the PDF over coming months.
