Ukelele Art Auction - 1 night showing only at Webb's 4th Aug

25 July 2011

STRINGS ATTACHED – Ukulele Art Auction for the Play It Strange Trust, showing for one night only, Webb’s Auction House Thursday 4th August.

Having distributed over 3,000 ukuleles to schools over the years, Play It Strange trust CEO Mike Chunn thought the ukulele would make the perfect vehicle for a fundraising art auction, aptly named “Strings Attached”.

The trust approached a number of creatives, artists, personalities and sporting greats to take on the challenge of individualising a ukulele with no limitations. The response was enthusiastic.

On Thursday 4th August, 6.30 – 8pm, in offer of their support, Webb’s Auction House has the 23 personalised ukuleles on show for one night only, celebrated with a performance by the Mt Roskill Primary Ukulele Band who will be joined by All Black Legend and ukulele player, Waka Nathan. Nathan’s ukulele will then go under the hammer!

The Strings Attached ukulele catalogue including; Don Binney, Rhys Darby, Dame Alison Holst, All Blacks and much more will be online at www.webbs.co.nz for online bids and conclude on Thursday 18th August at The Ultimate Music Quiz Night at Sacred Heart College, Glendowie (details on www.playitstrange.org.nz).

Play It Strange was established in 2003 to provide songwriting programmes aimed at giving young New Zealanders the opportunity to be heard through music. From it’s flagship competition The Lion Foundation National Secondary School, Songwriting Competition, the trust now has several competitions including the Peace Song Competition, Matariki Songwriting Competition and Anthem In Black songs for the Olympic Games. It also has the Junior Comp ukulele songwriting competition to cater for primary and intermediate school level.

Play It Strange exists through the generosity of a number of funders and supporters. For more on Play It Strange go to www.playitstrange.org.nz
