Alfs Imperial Army declares: Basin Reserve Overpass "Not Cricket"

The proposed Basin Reserve Overpass will destroy the atmosphere of the Basin forever and ruin the heart of Wellington City.

The true spirit of Cricket, of British sportsmanship, fair play, and gentlemanliness has clearly not been seen in the decision of the NZTA and the government in bulldozing an overpass through without public consent, and in their severe arm twisting of both the Wellington City Council and the Basin Reserve trust.

The actions of the Basin Reserve Trust too, are 'not cricket' as they look likely to take an $11 million fob-off that will hurt the city that the Basin and Wellington Cricket owes it existence to - rather ungrateful 'thanks' to the citizens of Wellington in our view.

Alfs Imperial Army takes the view that all the players in this fiasco need to take the time out to play a relaxing calm and sporting game of 5 day cricket which will give them the ample time they clearly need to consider a better way forward for Wellington: an overpass around the Basin may help get people to the airport 2 minutes sooner - but only so they leave a bleeding broken city with a motorway slashed through its heart,

Alfs Imperial Army will hold a protest stir at the north side of the Basin Reserve today 9 July at 4pm, we are not afraid to take a public stand against unsporting players.
