It is official; the Tui Brewery Brews a Bloody Good Drop.
Winning Trophy and Medals at BrewNZ Awards

The Tui Brewery Ltd from small town Mangatainoka added to its big reputation, when it collected more than just the judge’s nod of approval at BrewNZ Awards in Wellington. Mangatainoka’s finest, have won Gold and Silver Medals as well as a Grand Category Trophy award.

The Tui Brewery’s East India Pale Ale (affectionately known as Tui) was awarded top honours with a Gold Medal and in doing so took out the Trophy for ‘New Zealand’s Best Draught Beer’ for a third successive year. Being a great drop might just be the reason why Tui is New Zealand’s most popular beer brand.

The Tui Brewery’s other quality drop, Tui Blond Lager, received another BrewNZ Award, following up lasts year Gold Medal and Crowning as New Zealand’s Best Lager, with a Silver Medal in the New Zealand Lager & Premium Lager Styles Category.

Tui Marketing Manager, Jarrod Bear says the ongoing success of Tui at The BrewNZ Awards reinforces the brewing and taste credentials of New Zealand’s most popular beer brand.

“You have to acknowledge our team of brewers on the ongoing success of Tui at BrewNZ........”
“With Tui being awarded the Best New Zealand Draught Beer for a third year in a row, it once again acknowledges the passion and attention to quality, behind brewing NZ’s most popular of beer. Our brewers are so bloody passionate and dedicated; they even take their work home with them.”
“Another success of the night was the second BrewNZ award for Tui Blond Lager. This supports the growth we have experienced with this relatively new beer from the Tui Brewery and follows on from the Trophy and Gold Award Tui Blond Lager was awarded in the 2010 awards. The two new medals and trophy will proudly be positioned in the Museum at the Tui HQ in Mangatainoka, alongside a few other awards collected since Tui won 1st Prize at the Palmerston North A&P Show in 1904.”

The BrewNZ Awards 2011 awarded to Tui Brewery Ltd are as follows:
New Zealand Draught Grand Trophy
Tui East India Pale Ale

Simon Nathan: No Ordinary In-Laws

The title of this short memoir by Keith Ovenden is misleading – it would be better called “Bill, Shirley and me” as it is an account of Ovenden’s memories of his parents-in-law, Bill Sutch and Shirley Smith. His presence is pervasive through the book. All three participants are (or were) eloquent, strongly-opinionated intellectuals who have made significant contributions to different aspects of New Zealand life. Their interactions were often complex and difficult... More>>
