Electric Wire Hustle announce NZ & Australian shows

Last week Electric Wire Hustle wrapped up their European tour with their final show at the UK's Big Chill festival which saw them join a line up of heavyweight international talents including headline act Kanye West. EWH's extensive European summer tour spanned 2 months, 20 shows and 10 countries. In that time EWH performed at some of Europe's (& the world's) largest festivals including Glastonbury in the UK and their first shows in Spain at the Red Bull Dome, Sonar Festival, Belgium at Dour Festival and Colours of Ostrava in the Czech Republic, all of which are documented in their tour blog at www.redbull.co.nz

“It has been an amazing tour in Europe. The band has been playing better than ever and the audience responses have been incredible. As sad as we are to leave, we're looking forward to performing in New Zealand again and it will be great to bring our energy and experiences from this trip home.” says EWH drummer, Myele Manzanza.

The live band will perform 6 shows in New Zealand in September in Auckland, Raglan and 2 shows each in their hometowns Wellington and Christchurch. They will kick things off in Havelock first though on the 2nd of September on the turntables at Diva Bar with Mara TK, Taay Ninh, Myele Manzanza & Benny Tones spinning some of their favourite tunes and new vinyl gems they discovered on their journeys.

The band has developed a special show for the Christchurch Arts Festival September 9 & 10 at the TelstraClear Club in North Hagley Park which will delve into the musical heritage of each member. Mara TK will perform with his father, NZ blues legend Billy TK, Taay Ninh with his mother Le Nuong – traditional Vietnamese vocalist and EWH drummer, Myele Manzanza with his father, Congolese master percussionist, Sam Manzanza before all 3 parents join their children to perform as part of Electric Wire Hustle.

Wellington sees EWH join up with Little Bushman for two very special nights of vibrantly detailed sound at Wellington’s San Francisco Bathhouse on the 23rd & 24th of September. This will be the first time since April that Little Bushman have taken to the stage in NZ after the release in the same month of their 3rd studio album ‘Te Oranga’, which was followed closely by a stint in Australia which saw them wow audiences at the prestigious Byron Bay Bluesfest, as well as in Sydney & Melbourne.

“We've been trying to team up with the Bushies for a couple of years now since we played together back in 2008 & we're really excited to be able to play 2 nights with them in Welli at San Fran Bathhouse. Similarly the Christchurch Arts Festival shows with our folks' is an idea we have been discussing since EWH formed seeing as we all come from such mixed cultural and musical backgrounds. It's great to finally be able to see these things come to fruition.” says' EWH's Taay Ninh.

Electric Wire Hustle have also just been announced to perform at Sydney's inaugral boutique music event 'Musica' to be held in Tumbalong Park, Sydney 22 October. They will also perform at The Roxy Bar, Melbourne on the 27th of October and Island Vibe Festival on North Stradbroke Island, Queensland on the 30th of October with more Australian and international dates to be announced soon.

“We would also like to acknowledge the work that the NZ Music Commission /Outward Sound do to assist NZ Music get overseas & develop international audiences. Their support has been instrumental in helping us to achieve our dreams and it's amazing to see the attention NZ artists are now gaining internationally & the reputation NZ is building for it's music scene in Europe in particular. As we all know there is an abundance of talent in NZ but the isolation from these larger markets makes it difficult for this talent to grow to an international level. We are fortunate to have funding bodies like Outward Sound and Creative NZ who promote NZ Arts internationally. Everyone we've bumped into from our local community is certainly making the most of their time here and putting in a huge effort to perform and promote our unique brand of music." adds Taay. "We've worked really hard in Europe. After the NZ shows we're looking forward to hitting Australia again in October, spending some downtime with whanau after being on the road for so long and of course working on the next album!”
