Kiwi Soprano WINS top Australian Operatic Prize
Kiwi soprano Sarah Ann Walker has walked away with the
$15,000 first prize at the prestigious Australian National
Aria competition held this weekend in Canberra. In a
competitive field with excellent singers, Sarah Ann sang
Dove sono from Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and Einsam in
Truben tagen from Wagner's Lohengrin, the adjudicators Lisa
Gasteen and Roger Howell praised Sarah Ann's voice as "first
class" and "warm from top to bottom without fatigue".
Sarah Ann, currently based in Sydney, is thrilled with this milestone win in her career "It's an opportunity for me to develop my career further, and has now given me options which were previously unavailable due alone to finances, to finally be able to have these options open up for me is a huge boost coming at an important time".
Australian Soprano Emma Moore was placed second and Tenor John Longmuir, third. The other finalists were Phoebe Humphries, Michelle der Kinderen and Erin Patrick.
Sarah Ann will be performing in Auckland at the Pumphouse for SING on the 18th September at 7:30pm. Tickets available at door.
