Fagan And the People Release New Album

Fagan And the People Release New Album

“Admiral Of The Narrow Seas”.
One who from drunkenness vomits into the lap of the person sitting opposite them, a sea phrase from the 1811 Dictionary Of The Vulgar Tongue. An album title such as this conjures up all kinds of possibilities, just as Fagan And The People’s new album charts many different musical landscapes.

The tracks on “Admiral Of The Narrow Seas” are truly authentic and what one would expect from someone of the song writing calibre of Fagan, with their easy hooks and dark, lyrical underbelly; whether it’s the sunny melodic acoustic opening song, “Enjoy The Show”, or the dark sonic driving beat and twisted theremin of “Blame Me”. The first single, “Religion” begins in the vein of a dirty 60s funk/soul track with a continuous sax riff and hypnotic drums, soon surging into a cacophony of dissonant scratchy guitar as Fagan extols the virtues of knowing one’s self.

The songs were written over the past few years with a lengthy distilling process resulting in the final twelve.

“I'm a ruthless pruner of songs and song structures,” states Fagan. ”When are you satisfied a recording best represents the song? It’s taken longer than anticipated but these songs are finally complete.”

Early tracking of the songs started at Metropolis in Chiswick, London and at Sensible Studios,London. Final recording and mastering was completed at Frisbee Studios and the New Telepathics Studio, both in West Auckland.
