IN THREE
MINDS; three artists think about elements, movement and
myth
Jennifer Bogoievski * Karen
Maggs * Barbara Lyon
You are invited to meet the artists at their opening on
Monday 7th November at 5.30
pm.
Karen, Jennifer
and Barbara met several years ago and have been exhibiting
as part of a larger group ever since. This is their first
exhibition at Thistle
Hall.
Jennifer’s
art pieces and installation are based on the female winged
creatures taken from myth and folklore.
These liminal
she-devils were invented to seduce, nag and harangue men.
Jennifer uses mixed-media and found objects to give these
mythical hybrids more positive and powerful qualities which
they could have had before they were reinvented to suit
patriarchal
societies.
Karen
is continuing to explore layering of colour using
the spatter technique. She is investigating this through a
theme based on the four main elements of water, air, fire
and
earth.
Barbara’s
work reflects an interest in
conveying visually an experience similar to that
conveyed by music and dance: rhythm, tonality / atonality,
the transitional instant between control and transfiguring
release, the ceaseless frenetic moment of every part of the
created world and the fluctuating attraction of each piece
and creature to
another.
