Get Happy with Lonely Planet

Lonely Planet’s HAPPY Secrets to Happiness from the Cultures of the World In Lonely Planet’s new book, HAPPY, the global travel authority shares happiness secrets from cultures around the world, and shows how they can be applied to everyday life.
While Lonely Planet acknowledges there are roughly seven billion ways to define ‘happiness’ (one for each person on Earth), this book offers 55 specific examples of how different cultures invite happiness into their lives.

These can be simple joys: HAPPY celebrates devoting time to honour family ties (Tsagaan Sar in Mongolia), being still with the present moment (zazen meditation in Japan), and giving thanks (Thanksgiving in the USA).

The book also highlights physical pleasures, like dancing in the Carnaval parades in Brazil; the value of giving back to your community during the Chilean ritual of ‘la minga’ work days; and accepting life’s impermanence while building a sand mandala in Tibet.

HAPPY’s other secrets to making life easier and more enjoyable include: • Letting go of the little things at the Lantern Festival in Thailand. • Learning to accept transience by making sand mandalas in Tibet. • Breaking out of your bubble with the Italian tradition of passeggiata. • Shaking your booty at the Crop Over Festival, Barbados.
