Scorpion-Slaying Mouse Lead Character in Nat Geo WILD Game
Scorpion-Slaying Mouse Lead Character in New Nat Geo WILD Game
Nat Geo WILD, in partnership with Dunedin-based Runaway, is proud to announce their Howling Mouse App, a game where a cute carnivorous mouse tackles scorpions for his dinner and howls at the moon to mark his territory, is now available on the App Store for iPhone and iPod touch.
In Howling Mouse, the Arizona Grasshopper Mouse is on an adventure across the wilderness to save his babies from the clutches of the deadly Great Horned Owl. He runs and jumps his way across treacherous terrain, encountering ferocious mini killers along the way.
"The Grasshopper Mouse is a compelling character found in nature, but he took a while to discover," says Tim Nixon of Runaway.
"We were sitting around a television watching documentaries, searching for inspiration in real life animal characters. And then we came across this crazy little mouse in the desert in National Geographic Channel's original Built for the Kill series. A three cm high carnivorous beast who eats scorpions for dinner, and howls at the moon to mark his territory - we obviously couldn't go past him for a key character."
"Howling Mouse is a perfect extension of our brand," said Brad Dancer, Senior Vice President of Research and Digital Media for the National Geographic Channels. "This is the start of an incredible partnership that will provide consumers yet another new way to experience the world's best natural history programming found only on Nat Geo WILD."
The game features 30 levels across three specialized environments inspired by the Sonoran Desert in North America. The simple one-tap gameplay means anyone can pick up the game and be hopping through the desert in no time. But those looking for a challenge will meet myriad tough obstacles as they progress into the depths of the desert, along the way encountering fearsome nocturnal enemies like angry poisonous grasshoppers, stink bugs, scorpions, black widow spiders, and finally the evil Great Horned Owl. After beating the game, players can play through again in a super tricky Challenge Mode, providing tons of extra gameplay.
Howling Mouse also includes dozens of real life facts about the creatures and environment that inspired the game, with each character also having an accompanying video produced by Nat Geo WILD especially for the game.
The Howling Mouse App is available for $.99 from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/
