Iconic Festival Celebrates 20
Years
All stops are being
pulled out as Te Kuiti celebrates 20 years of its iconic
street festival – The Great NZ Muster™ on the 31 March
this year.
The festival which celebrates Te
Kuiti’s self proclaimed title “Shearing Capital of New
Zealand” started out as a small Friday night promotion for
spectators who came to see the top national shearers compete
at the annual 3 day NZ Shears. 20 years later, thousands
flock to Te Kuiti to soak up the rustic atmosphere and enjoy
what has been described as an old-style kiwi day
out.
Organisers are proud of what the Great NZ Muster
has evolved into, says spokesperson Rebecca Whitehead from
Waitomo District Council.
“The Great NZ Muster is
kiwi heartland at its best. For twenty years, our small
rural town has bucked the trends and we have held the banner
high for everything sheep-like and rural,” says
Rebecca.
“Be warned though – our 20th
celebration intends to surpass all others. We are expecting
record breaking crowds; we have a fantastic line up of live
acts, plenty of zany displays and stalls, world famous
personalities plus sheep, sheep and more sheep. You won’t
want to miss it”
The Great NZ Muster runs from 10am
to 4pm on Saturday 31 March and coincides with the final day
of the NZ Shearing Championships. The infamous Running of
the Sheep which is a highlight of the street festival will
be happening from
2pm.
