New Works Explore Urban 'Non-Places'
New Works Explore Urban 'Non-Places' An exhibition, in Wellington, opening on Friday 9 March will feature the intriguing work of Lisa Chandler - a painter who casts a fresh eye on the spaces within crowded urban environments. Inspired by philosopher Mark Auge, she explores 'non-places', spaces which are defined by city dwellers moving through rather than inhabiting. Lisa draws ideas from wandering city streets, Wellington streets in this case. She then creates her works with multiple layers of paint where figures are formed, obliterated and reformed. She highlights the tension between the chaos of the crowd and the quiet of the individual to reveal a startling sense of freedom and anonymity.
