George FM Album #1 on iTunes
Dance / Electronic radio station, George FM,
took out the number one position on the iTunes Album chart
in New Zealand today with their compilation album
Yearbook 2011.
The album is a celebration of the radio station’s top tracks for the year and is mixed by longtime George FM DJ, Dick ‘Magik’ Johnson. This is the second annual Yearbook compilation and the first time it’s reached the coveted number one spot for downloads.
Program Director Willy Macalister is thrilled with the result “I’m bloody thrilled actually. Seeing George FM at #1 for anything is awesome, we can’t thank our listeners enough.”
George FM started in 1998 broadcasting from a Grey Lynn flat on a low powered frequency. The station has gone from strength to strength in its hometown, Auckland , and is rebroadcast across seven frequencies nationwide. The station attributes the success to its ability to retain the relaxed urban format that appeals to its target audience. Having their very own compilation album at the top of the charts shows the music formula of George FM has connected with a large group of New Zealanders.
