Bound into the Race of a Lifetime
As part of their 50th anniversary celebrations in 2012, Outward Bound has teamed up with Kathmandu to host the Kathmandu Adventure Series race at Anakiwa.
Former Outward Bound students and budding or serious adventure racers are being invited to take part in the event which will help showcase the stunning environment that has been home to the Outward Bound school for the past 50 years.
The one-day action-packed Kathmandu Adventure Race will take place on 31 March 2012. Competitors can team up into pairs to compete in the race which includes mountain biking, kayaking, trail running and simple navigation.
Outward Bound Curriculum Manager, Dan Moore, who came second in the 2011 2-day Speight’s Coast-to-Coast, said the race has been tailored for all abilities from the entry-level competitor right through to the seasoned athlete.
“Like an Outward Bound course, the race will suit all levels of competitors which means that anyone can do it,” Dan said.
“Plenty of surprise elements have also been included the race design which is why the actual route is being kept under wraps right up until when the competitors arrive at Anakiwa.”
Dan said the location for the race is ‘breathtaking’ and competitors can expect a one of a kind track.
“It’s also a great way for people to get out there and celebrate Outward Bound’s milestone achievement of unlocking kiwi potential for 50 years.”
The event is one of 10 races that are being held in both New Zealand and Australia, as part of the Kathmandu Adventure Series.
