Wellington Duo Hit Songwriting Paydirt

Amy and Brent McFarlane of Wellington band 'Reckless Mack' have hit the international music arena as finalists in the prestigious International Songwriters Competition, the same competition that helped kick-start the career of fellow New Zealander, Gin Wigmore.

The brother-and-sister duo are one of only 15 finalists in the Dance/Electronica category, after their song "Free" was picked from thousands of entries.

The International Songwriter's Contest is an annual event based in Nashville, Tennessee and has been the launching pad for a number of international recording careers, including Wigmore, who won the Grand Prize in 2004.

The McFarlane's released their first album, the self-titled "Reckless Mack", earlier this year, prior to their debut festival performance at January's Parachute Music Festival.

This year's judging line-up of 15 celebrated international artists includes Tom Waits, Tori Amos, Jeff Beck and Basement Jaxx in addition to a host of American recording studio executives. The competition winners will be announced in April.

"We feel so privileged to be selected as finalists by such inspirational and high class judges." Amy McFarlane said.
