Press Release from Art by the Sea gallery
Press Release from Art by the Sea gallery
Through no fault of our own we, the owners of Art by the Sea gallery, have been tried, found guilty and sentenced in the "Social Media" courtroom of public opinion over a recent skateboarding incident. We have done nothing wrong. We own an art gallery and we are passionate about promoting New Zealand artists and their creations. We do not condone violence of any kind and we do not support bullying. In the last few days we have found ourselves in the unenviable position of being powerless to prevent our name and the gallery's name being targeted through a vicious hate campaign perpetrated by faceless people and assisted by an unregulated social media platform. The outcome of this has exposed our business, our names and certain family members to unsubstantiated rumour and conjecture and, in the extreme, actual death threats. We have placed this matter firmly in the hands of the police including all correspondence to date and ask to be left alone to carry on the business we are passionate about. The promotion of New Zealand art.
