Countdown to ERUPT
It’s one month out from the largest arts and cultural event in the central North Island – the flags are up, the programmes printed and excitement is mounting.
Powered by Unison, the Erupt 2012 launches on May 10 with more than 60 events packed into the 11-day festival and there’s plenty to look forward to.
The festival office reports that tickets are selling well with some shows close to sell out and strong interest in the many free community events and workshops included in the diverse and vibrant programme.
“We’ve had great feedback on the festival content and plenty of positive comments about the variety of shows and events,” says Festival Manager, Kylie Hawker.
With Taupō being less than two hours from Hawkes Bay, Waikato and Bay of Plenty main centers, out-of-town interest in Erupt is high.
“We hope people will come and stay for a few days, enjoy our wonderful Taupō lifestyle, hospitality and festival events,” Ms Hawker says.
Erupt’s line-up features some of New Zealand’s best talent, and as well as headline acts from the UK and Australia there’s music, multimedia installations, dance and visual and culinary arts.
On the programme is ‘Idiots of Ants’, four young British sketch comedians, who recently had well known comic John Cleese laughing out loud and there’s plenty more laughs to be had. The kilometer-long ‘Unison Erupt to Light Trail’, one of several free community events will light up the heart of Erupt 2012, illuminating more than 20 light installations along its path.
Ticket prices start at $29 and the full programme is on www.eruptfestival.co.nz and can also be picked up from the festival office at the Great Lake Centre between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday or posted by request
Ends.
