Christchurch Pops into Methven!

Christchurch Pops into Methven!

The singing sensation that runs the gauntlet from Gershwin to Gaga - the Christchurch Pops Choir, is hitting the road to perform at the Methven Heritage Centre on Saturday, 28 April.

With songs from artists such as Adele, Queen, Manhattan Transfer, Hollie Smith, Michael Jackson and Goldenhorse, the Christchurch Pops Choir has been wowing audiences with its fresh take on choir singing.

“We’ve been approached to bring our band of merry men and women to Methven to support the Methven Heritage Centre. What a great opportunity to show off our style and constantly changing repertoire to a new audience!" Artistic Director Luke Di Somma says.

Recent Pops Choir appearances include performing at the New Zealand International Buskers Festival, the February Earthquake Memorial in Hagley Park, at the Re-Start Mall in the Christchurch CBD, the Rugby World Cup Fanzone, a free outdoor performance at Riccarton Bush, and several private functions.

Methven Heritage Centre Events Coordinator Jenny Sanders says she’s thrilled to have the choir travel to perform in the centre.

“We know the Christchurch Pops Choir will be something special for local people to come and listen to. Some of the choir’s Christchurch fans may also like to make a weekend of it and come and stay in our awesome Methven accommodation!” she said.

Tickets ($25 Adults/$12.50 students) for the 7.30pm show can be purchased from the Methven Heritage Centre, info@methvenheritagecentre.co.nz, phone 03 302 9666. Or book on the internet at www.iticket.co.nz

About the Christchurch Pops Choir:

Following the Canterbury earthquakes, the lack of musical opportunities provided the impetus for Artistic Director and Fulbright recipient Luke Di Somma to draw together a great range of singing talent to perform rock, pop, jazz, gospel and musical theatre.

“We’re performers, we needed an outlet for that. It’s amazing – I’m working with a diverse group of people from all walks of life to create a sound that is something different – we’re the first choir of this type in the country,” Mr Di Somma says.
