Apartment dwellers to receive special information about going digital

If you live in an apartment, residential unit or townhouse and have questions about how to go digital then keep an eye on your letterbox.

Over the coming week people who live in an apartment, residential unit or townhouse will receive a brochure on New Zealand ’s move to digital TV with a reminder for everyone to check they are ready.

New Zealand is going digital in stages with Hawke’s Bay and the West Coast the first regions to make the move on 30 September 2012. Auckland and the upper North Island will be the last regions to go digital on 1 December 2013.

Going Digital National Manager Greg Harford says people who live in an apartment, residential unit or townhouse may have special requirements to go digital so they need to start looking at their options.

“If you live in an apartment, residential unit or townhouse, you may receive your TV signal via an aerial or satellite dish that you share with everyone else in your building,” said Mr Harford.

It is important that people living in apartments, residential units and townhouses speak with their building owner, body corporate or building manager to make sure their building has gone digital.

It is estimated that there are over 300,000 apartments, residential units and townhouses across the country with more than half of these being in the Auckland area.

Mr Harford says people living in apartments, residential units and townhouses may have to buy their own set-top box while building owners may need to upgrade their equipment so we recommend that building managers seek early technical advice.

“After 1 December 2013 everyone in Auckland who wants to continue watching TV will need to be digital whether they live in a caravan, a home or an apartment,” said Mr Harford.
