Dalai Laughter Raybon Kan to perform at New Zealand Comedy Festival
Like an unfolding lotus, Aucklanders get to enjoy Asian-Kiwi comedian Raybon Kan in action next month in his one-man show Uncalled For, in the 2012 New Zealand Comedy Festival.
Named Best Comedian by bourgeois Western publications such as Metro Magazine and North & South, Raybon has transcended the plane of mere entertainment to be named one of the 50 Most Trusted Kiwis by Reader’s Digest.
Raybon's humanitarian work includes his unselfish moulding of 'The Official Mug of Non-Racism' (Available Only in White).
He has also written the lyrics of the religiously-inclusive song 'Do They Know It's Ramadan?'
Masterton’s most successful Asian comedian, Raybon is proud to be (or at least pragmatic about being) a second generation Chinese New Zealander.
A former lawyer, Raybon has performed at the major comedy festivals: Montreal, Edinburgh, and Melbourne. He's also performed in Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai, where he observed cultural diversity, currency imbalance and fantastic bargains.
Also an author, his books include America on Five Bullets a Day, and An Asian at my Table. On TV, he’s won the TV IQ quiz Test the Nation three times.
The show will be a raucous hour of material based on Raybon's three R's: race, religion and relationships. "Something to offend everyone," promises Raybon.
Raybon's show runs for two nights only,
11-12 May, at the Town Hall Comedy Chamber, 303 Queen
Street.
