Triangle TV heats up Wednesdays with Richards’ romance

Triangle Television heats up Wednesdays with Richards’ romance
Commencing 8:30pm Wednesday May 2 – UHF Ch 41

Take a best-selling American author, add her New Zealand love stories, mix in a German film crew and you get the spices that make up a hot, nine-week TV film season starting on Auckland’s Triangle Television from Wednesday, May 2 at 8:30pm.

The free-to-air UHF broadcaster has a long and well-earned reputation for delivering its audience a fresh, international TV diet.

These nine TV films, based on the work of Emilie Richards, explore the realities of love, romance, and self-realisation. They are in German with English subtitles.

While on a sabbatical, Emilie wrote several novels set in Australia and New Zealand.

“I get my inspiration from the lives of the people I meet, normal people who have mastered great difficulties and whose struggles haven’t brought them any kind of fame,” Emilie says. “I write for people who live their life with courage and joy and I hope that this will also inspire my readers and viewers.”

Her New Zealand stories are the backdrop for the TV films created by German company ZDF Enterprises. The German and Kiwi crew shot the series on location throughout New Zealand with a mix of local and international actors.

Jim Blackman, CEO of Triangle Television, sees the series as contributing to the channel’s role as a public service broadcaster and believes the stories lend themselves well to TV adaptation and portray New Zealand in a fresh light.

“The series is beautifully filmed and gained a huge audience in Germany thanks to the complex characters and settings. While we may be somewhat bemused from time to time by the manner in which we as a nation are portrayed, these movies have had a huge impact in creating international awareness of our country,” Jim says.
