Calling Future Stars: Youthtown Short Film Competition Is Back

Youthtown urges New Zealand’s rising film making talent to start getting creative and enter the 2012 Jump Cut Short Film Competition.

Youthtown’s annual short film challenge has been running successfully for eight years. This year the name has changed to the Jump Cut Short Film Competition to better appeal to teenage audiences for whom the competition was created.

The competition gives budding film makers, writers, actors and actresses aged 13 and 18 years the chance to showcase their talents, with awards for best film and best director up for grabs on premiere night.

Entries for the competition must be received by 5pm on Friday 3 August 2012 and will be judged by a panel of industry experts. Winning films will be screened at an Oscar style red carpet premiere on Wednesday 29 August. There are great prizes up for grabs, including the very popular one week Introduction to Video Production Course at South Seas Film and Television School in Auckland.

“This competition is always a highlight of our year here at Youthtown and we are excited to be bringing it back for the ninth year,” says Youthtown CEO Keith Thorpe.

“We encourage creativity and this is one of the ways we can reward and recognise the extraordinary pool of young creative talent we have in New Zealand,” he added.

Youthtown will also be holding short film workshops every Saturday from 28 April until 30 June at its Central Auckland hub in Nelson Street from 11.00am to 3.00pm. The workshops will cover all aspects of filmmaking including camera technique, acting, directing, editing, production and script writing.
