Poverty is an injustice which needs to be addressed

In a world rich in resources, poverty is an injustice which needs to be addressed

In 1942 – during the Second World War – a group in the UK campaigned for food supplies to be sent through an allied naval blockade of enemy-occupied Greece to starving women and children. The group was named the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief and, inevitably, abbreviated to “Oxfam”.

This week's guest In Conversation with Noel Cheer on Triangle Television is John Stansfield, the Advocacy and Campaigns Director for Oxfam New Zealand. John is responsible for Oxfam's Biggest Coffee Break, New Zealand’s biggest celebration of fair trade. Oxfam's Biggest Coffee Break is enjoyed each May during Fair Trade Fortnight when people throughout the country get together to taste the Fairtrade difference and fundraise for Oxfam's work towards a fairer, safer, more sustainable world.

Triangle Television, Wednesday May 2nd at 7:00pm and repeated Thursday May 3rd at 12:30pm.

Triangle Television can be received in metropolitan Auckland on UHF Channels 41, 42 and 52.

Triangle Television is also transmitted live on streaming TV – a newly emerging technology – which can be received on broadband-connected computers throughout New Zealand and on Internet-connected television sets. Go to www.ecasttv.co.nz
