Supporting Young Musicians for New Zealand Music Month

Every Sunday during New Zealand Music Month at Te Papa, our nation’s young musicians will have the chance to learn from those in the know, about the ins and outs of the music industry.

Young musicians will be given the chance to learn from the experience of New Zealand music industry icons such as Warren Maxwell, Leader of Little Bushman, award-winning producer and composer David Long, and The Phoenix Foundation’s Samuel Flynn Scott

Warren Maxwell and other music representatives from the New Zealand music industry will be sharing their knowledge on getting a music career off the ground at a free workshop on Sunday 27 May. Young musicians will receive the inside information on the best ways of releasing music and making videos to running events and shows.  

On Sunday 13 May, David Long and Samuel Flynn Scott will presenting an insiders guide to writing songs and composing for film. Both artists have international experience that they are happy to share to share with musicians wanting their ‘big break’.  

Guitarists know the importance of developing their unique tone so on Sunday 6 May, pedal guru Ben Fulton and local guitar builder Dave Berry, will share their knowledge on how.  

On Sunday 20 May, eight bands all mentored by music-industry veterans, all with different sounds, will take to the stage to perform a free concert in Te Papa’s Soundings Theatre

All New Zealand Music Month of May events at Te Papa are free admission and developed in association with The Band School.
