Final race of Kathmandu Riverrun Trail Series

Final race of Kathmandu Riverrun Trail Series

LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand (7 May 2012) – Entries are now open for the final race of the Kathmandu Riverrun Trail Series, the off-road running series which explores the spectacular lakeside and river tracks in Lake Wanaka.

The fourth and final event on Saturday 19 May, from Glendhu Bay to Roy’s Bay in Wanaka travels on the scenic Damper Bay/Waterfall Creek Track and is 14.1km. The track hugs the shoreline and offers stunning views across Lake Wanaka throughout. The race will determine the overall series winners with the fastest male and female runners claiming the title, the John Pawson trophies and a major cash prize.

Race director Victoria Murray-Orr said it is great to have had so many people participate in the series “With colder weather just around the corner this is a great end of season race to do,” she said. “Creating the series has encouraged people to stay fit and healthy whilst enjoying Wanaka’s fantastic network of tracks.”

The second series began in October 2011 on the Hawea River Track. The Clutha River Track and Outlet Track also featured in the series. The tracks are part of the Te Araroa Walkway, a 3000-km trail stretching from Cape Reinga in the North to Bluff in the South. The Te Araroa Trust has sponsored a prize which will also be presented at the final prize giving.

There is a fantastic prize pool up for grabs including cash prizes for place getters, plus plenty of spot prizes. The Riverrun Trail Series is generously supported by Kathmandu, Riverrun, the Pawson Adventure Fund, Wanaka Health, Revive Beauty, Lakes Podiatry, ProActive and Radio Wanaka.
