La Bohème (Giacomo Puccini)

Italian soprano Nuccia Focile is indisposed and not able to sing the role of Musetta at the performance of La bohème this evening. The role will be sung by New Zealand soprano Madeleine Pierard who also sang the role for The Royal Opera on Saturday 12 May.

Madeleine has previously sung Musetta (Longborough Festival) in 2009. She joined the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in 2010 and in the 2010/11 Season sang Sandman (Hansel and Gretel), High Priestess (Aida) and Noémie (Cendrillon). Last summer she toured with the New Zealand SO, Jonathan Lemalu and Simon O’Neill. This Season she has sung Lisa in La sonnambula and Second Nymph in Rusalka (The Royal Opera) and the soprano solos in Requiem and Gloria (The Royal Ballet). Other operatic appearances include Flowermaiden in Parsifal and Marzelline in Fidelio (NBR New Zealand Opera) and Justice in The First Commandment (Classical Opera Company). She will sing Slave (Salome) and Contessa di Folleville (Il viaggio a Reims, Jette Parker Young Artists Tenth Anniversary Performance).
