Happy 20th Birthday Shortland Street
Happy 20th Birthday Shortland Street
NZ On Air congratulates the Shortland Street team on the great achievement of reaching 20 years on air.
Shortland Street had the critics buzzing when it hit screens in 1992 and has gone on to cement itself as an icon of New Zealand’s television history.
“The series began with NZ On Air support and grew up to stand alone. It proved that New Zealand could sustain a daily soap – and a much loved one at that” says NZ On Air Chief Executive Jane Wrightson.
“From there it’s provided a training ground for a whole generation of actors, writers, technicians and production personnel, the fruit of which can be seen in theatre, film and other television productions both here and abroad”.
NZ On Air wishes South Pacific Pictures, and everyone who’s been involved with the programme over the years, a well-earned and happy celebration.
