NZ Top 40 Spotify App Launched

NZ Top 40 Spotify App Launched

RIANZ partners with Spotify to stream weekly music charts

The Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ) has today announced the launch of its dedicated Official NZ Top 40 Music Charts App, designed specifically for the newly-launched music streaming service – Spotify.

The App enables Spotify users to explore the weekly music charts and keep up to date with the latest music. By fully integrating with Spotify, users can listen to full songs and albums on the chart, receive the chart automatically each week as a playlist, and share full weekly charts.

RIANZ chart manager Phil Matcham says the introduction of services such as Spotify in New Zealand provide greater choice in online purchasing options.

“These services help the industry grow and the difference between accessing music through sites such as Spotify and illegal counterparts is that the band gets paid. Kiwis can now buy music online from five legal services and in a very cost-effective way with legal access to millions of tracks.

“Spotify began in Sweden and Sweden is a good example of a nation where the music industry had been decimated by unauthorised downloading. But Spotify is booming there – and in 14 other countries – and it has helped the music industry in Sweden to start growing again.

“Spotify makes it easy for Kiwis to listen to their favourite song and artists – while still respecting the artists’ rights. It’s a hugely popular service overseas and we expect New Zealanders to see it as a great way to enjoy, share and discover new music.

“Partnering with Spotify also means we’re helping to add  local content to the service by highlighting the local and international artists  Kiwis are ranking the most popular,” he says.

Spotify is a music streaming service which enables users to stream their choice of music, providing on-demand access to more than 16 million tracks.

Users can also create, recommend and share playlists to create a virtual music library accessible on your computer, mobile phone and beyond. Spotify makes it easier than ever to discover, manage and share music with your friends, while making sure that artists get a fair deal. Spotify is currently available in 14 other countries with Spotify confirming a New Zealand launch earlier today.

To check out the NZ Top 40 App, first download Spotify for free by visiting Spotify.com, then click on 'App Finder' in the side bar and select the NZ Top 40 from there.
