Hue & Cry Launches Issue Six: An Exercise in Optimism
Hue & Cry journal is optimistic about the future of New Zealand arts, with a sixth issue showcasing new fiction, poetry, art and art writing.
Hue & Cry is an annual literary and art journal that combines work by both established and emerging writers and artists. Publisher, Chloe Lane, says Issue Six continues this theme.
“New Zealand’s arts and literary scenes are as strong as they have ever been, and Hue & Cry is proud to give voice to some very exciting new talents,” says Chloe.
An Exercise in Optimism includes new fiction by Gigi Fenster, author of The Intentions Book; and Gemma Bowker-Wright, winner of the 2011 Katherine Mansfield Award; as well as new writing by NZ Society of Authors, 2011 Best First Book winner Pip Adam. Featured artists include Simon Denny, Andrew McLeod and Kushana Bush. This issue will also include art writing from Ruth Buchanan and Laura Preston.
Since it was founded in 2007, Hue & Cry has gained notice overseas. It is now sold across Australia and was featured in a documentary about Wellington’s literary scene, to be screened at the prestigious Frankfurt Book Fair.
“This year, we will be taking Hue & Cry’s success a step further with the launch of Hue & Cry Press, and the publication of award winning poet Sarah Jane Barnett’s first book, A Man Runs into a Woman.”
Already, a PledgeMe fundraiser for A Man Runs into a Woman was the quickest ever on the crowd funding site, meeting its funding goals within 24 hours.
Hue & Cry, Issue Six: An Exercise in Optimism goes on sale from 25 May 2012.
