"Ragtime Band Comes To The Coast"

MEDIA RELEASE

ROSENEATH CENTENNIAL RAGTIME BAND

"Ragtime Band Comes To The Coast"

Wellington 7 piece group, The Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band are bringing their ragtime throw back show to the Kapiti Coast this month. Set to play St. Peters Hall, Paekakariki on Saturday June 23rd, this is the first in a series of Community Hall shows that the band are planning to do.

“St. Peters Hall is such a great venue ” says drummer Mike Jensen. “We’re really looking forward to playing there”.

The idea to do a community hall series came from a show the band did last year. “We did a gig at this charming old hall in Breaker Bay. It was like stepping back in time to 1950’s New Zealand. People were dressed in vintage clothes, there was a shared bbq, and a packed dance floor”

“We’re looking to try and recreate that same kind of vibe with the Community Hall gigs, a Saturday Night shin dig like they would have had a few years ago” says piano player, Dayle Jellyman.

The band are known for their energetic live shows and impeccable dress sense and play mostly original music that is inspired by the eclectic sounds of New Orleans. “We have a 3 piece horn section, upright bass, drums, acoustic guitar and we all sing. We even haul an upright piano to all of our shows”, says Dayle Jellyman. “We definitely get people up and moving, and we throw in a few sing along numbers for good measure too!”

Having recently played to a sell-out crowd at the San Francisco Bathhouse in Wellington last month with brass band, The Richter City Rebels, (which featured a combined 16 piece group), the band are keen to take their music on the road and play to some new crowds.

“We want to branch out of Wellington a bit more and play to people who may not have seen us or heard of us before. If it goes well, we will set up more gigs like this. There are quite a few beautiful old halls that we would love to play in” says Mike Jensen.
